The sisters, five altogether, were born in a small Pennsylvania town southwest of Pittsburgh. As young girls, they learned to appreciate hand-crafted items made by their Mom, Grandma and Aunts. They learned to embroider and crochet chains and spent hours amusing themselves by stringing buttons! Paulette and her husband relocated from Phoenix to Tse Bonito in 2005. Cathy and her husband relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006.
We initially toured Ft. Defiance Indian Hospital on February 12, 2008. Our tour guide, Mechelle, introduced us to several nurses, social workers and a mid-wife, Rosemary, to whom we donated our first three baby layettes. Encouraged by one of our supporters, we approached Gallup Indian Medical Center on March 2, 2009. We met with five nurses who were very enthusiastic about our willingness to help their new mothers. We delivered four layettes to GIMC on our first visit. Everyone we meet is very appreciative of the work we're doing. Several hospital staff member have told us that there is a real need at the hospital. When asked exactly what is needed the response is "everything". Many new mothers have nothing for their new babies and a lot of the elderly don't have much more than the clothes on their backs. Many families still live without electricity and running water.
We're doing as much as we are able to do and with YOUR help we can do much more. Please consider making a Donation and/or select a pattern from our Patterns page, grab your crochet hooks or knitting needles and get busy!
